Women’s Shearling

Shearling is one of those materials that has never really left the winter wardrobe. It keeps you warm without down or padding, simply because the wool remains attached to the hide. For Fall–Winter 2026, Soeur uses it for outerwear with a confident silhouette, cut generously to layer over thick knitwear.

What is shearling?

Shearling is sheepskin or lambskin tanned with the wool left intact. The leather forms the outside of the garment, while the wool stays inside, against the body, making the material naturally insulating. In English it is called shearling; in French, peau retournée, because the garment is worn leather-side out, with the wool inside. The result is a warm, breathable garment, lighter than its warmth might suggest.

From jacket to coat

Shearling comes in everything from a short jacket to a women’s shearling jacket and a coat. In its longer form, it readily replaces a puffer jacket in the city, while our shearling coats offer rounded cuts, fastened beneath a high collar. For a lighter piece between seasons, our leather jackets take over, and all our coats completes the selection of wool pieces.

How do you care for shearling?

Shearling should never be machine-washed or cleaned with water. Air it on a broad hanger, away from heat, and gently brush the wool side to restore its loft. If it gets wet, leave it to dry at room temperature, then soften it by hand. On the leather side, a nourishing treatment suitable for sheepskin, applied once or twice a season, keeps it from drying out. For stains or a thorough clean, entrust it to a specialist leather cleaner. Well cared for, it will see you through many winters, worn over a wool pullover with a high collar and straight-leg trousers.
